IQANDA by Elliott Barnes

American designer Elliott Barnes has imagined and designed the Iqanda collection - “egg” in the South African Xhosa language - revisiting the ancestral use of ostrich eggshells in the decorative arts. By modifying the shape of the shell, and orienting it with a functional (and not just decorative) purpose, new avenues have been explored: LED lights were incorporated into the shells, which were cut in half. While the patinated brass structure and lighting system are exactly the same for each item produced, no two eggshells are identical, giving each luminaire its own uniqueness.
